I’m Kay Onishi, and I write songs that turn real experiences into music. Writing has always been my way of making sense of life, from the diaries I filled as a child, to my years as a journalist, to my book Here Comes the Chameleon, which helps children understand emotional abuse. Across every form, I’ve been pulled toward the stories that carry weight.
As a songwriter, that shows up in lyrics that are emotionally charged, rooted in truths that aren’t always easy to face. But I deliver them in ways that open people up rather than shut them down. I use wit, humor, and even sarcasm to lower walls, making the hardest stories more approachable, more human, and ultimately more likely to resonate

With Daisy, my loyal (and anxious) sidekick. She reminds me daily that even restless hearts deserve comfort, and she keeps me grounded when life or writing gets heavy.

That same balance shapes my songs. I don’t shy away from hard truths, but I deliver them with wit, humor, and even a touch of sarcasm, enough to lower walls and make difficult stories approachable. Some songs come from my own experiences, others from what I observe in people. I’ve always been tuned into the small signals, the sadness behind a smile, the excitement in a voice, the discomfort in silence. To me, every lyric has to feel real, and the only way to get there is to write with intention and truth, because that’s what makes a song relatable, and allows the listener to connect more deeply.

The process of turning. an idea into music that creates connection. It’s carving out lyrics that hit home and transforming them into something listeners can feel.
“Hey Narc” is a bold, defiant anthem that gives voice to survivors of emotional abuse. With raw storytelling and striking imagery, it turns pain into power , confronting manipulation head on, while offering strength and solidarity to those who’ve lived through it.

Hey NARC came out of lived experience. Being around narcissists leaves you drained because of the twisting of words, the constant blame, and the way they can make you feel like you’re losing your grip. Writing this track gave me a way to flip that around.
This isn’t just my story. It’s for anyone who’s had to deal with someone like that,

This isn’t just my story. It’s for anyone who’s had to deal with someone like that, the kind of person who feeds on control and drama. Hey NARC pushes back with sarcasm, bite, and a beat you can’t ignore.
It’s an anthem for reclaiming your power and finding strength in vulnerability. With every lyric, I invite listeners to embrace their experiences and rise above the chaos.

Verse 1
Hey NARC, spare me the act,
I’ve seen your script, I know it by heart.
Always dodging the truth and stirring it up,
Go cry me a river,
I am immune to your crap.
Pre-Chorus
Go gaslight, twist, rewrite the scene,
Make me the villain, I am ok with that too.
Your mask is slipping , the crowd sees it too.
Chorus

Hey NARC, I’m done with your crap,
Your kingdom of lies is starting to crack.
Hey NARC, stop with the games,
I see what you’re doing, don’t start this again.
Verse 2
You light my fuse, then act all confused,
Boy, you know what you do!
You start my fire, then go cry for help,
Same old rerun of your pitiful act.
Pre-Chorus
Go gaslight, twist, rewrite the scene,
Make me the villain, I am ok with that too.
Your mask is slipping , the crowd sees it too.
Chorus
Hey NARC, I’m done with your crap,

Bridge
You love preaching big words, they’re part of your act,
But behind closed curtains, the truth never lasts.
You binge on excuses, you gorge on the lies,
And the cracks are now showing, the crowd’s getting wise.
Outro
I had my wins, sweet little sparks.
After brushing your teeth, did you ever wonder where your Sonic had been?
Now tell me, NARC, who’s laughing last?
Final Chorus
NARC, I’m done with your crap,
Your kingdom of lies is starting to crack.
Hey NARC, stop with the games,
